Low Head

Worth seeing at Low Head is the Low Head lighthouse built in 1888, which gives magnificent views of the Tamar River and surrounding area.

There is also the Pilot Station Maritime Museum, and a coastal walk leading to a small beach where penguins come ashore at nightfall. Low Head Penguin tours are available nightly - phone: 0418 361 860.

There are fantastic dive spots off Barrell Rock, which includes a cool temperate reef. This spot is considered one of the best shore dives due to the deep drop off from the reefs. The dive is challenging and it is only recommended for experienced divers who are with someone that knows the local conditions.

The penguin tour at low head is much better than the penguin parade at phillip Island in Victoria as it is far more natural and the knowledge of the guides is excellent. Well worth the effort of an evening out...drive carefully on the way home...lots of wildlife can jump across the roads.
