Looking for food in the Tamar Valley? You’re in for a treat.

From gourmet outlets, wholesalers and farm producers with retail shop fronts, the Tamar Valley comprises of 60 food operators. To make life even easier there are things like bakeries, cafes, hotels, restaurants and cellar doors that offer Tasmania’s best produce. Ask the chef and they’ll tell you exactly where the food was sourced from – in a lot of cases from the dirt right outside of the venue. Look closely at the garden outside of the cafe – it’s where food comes from; not wrapped in cling film and Styrofoam, not in a box that tells you it’s nutritional value, not imported– it’s grown and prepared here and if you ask the chef, there’s a story to all of it. Make your own food treasure hunt by devouring a Big Barn Burger, New York Chowder, Thai green chicken and prawn curry sausages, feijoas or even char-grilled quail in a grape bath. Quail love to be clean before dinner…

The Tamar Valley do the finer things well- escargot, feijoas, abalone, honey, cherries, pork, salmon, olive oil, black truffles and Arneis are all part of our trail, we won’t judge if you don’t know what some of those are yet! You can even pat the dog who locates the truffles, have a taste of the ‘trufferies’ home made ice-cream, infused with black truffles. Go on, check it out – Tamar Valley Truffles, and the Arneis is only available at Holm Oak – you can go Google it now!
